We’re excited to share the first steps of our latest project—a 1993 Land Rover Discovery Commercial. This distinctive vehicle, now a rare find, especially in its commercial guise, recently arrived at our workshop for a full panel beating and rust repair treatment. As we dive into the restoration process, we’re reminded of the Discovery’s unique place in automotive history and the growing scarcity of these utilitarian gems.

The Land Rover Discovery Commercial was first introduced in 1993, based on the three-door Discovery model. Designed as a hardworking van, it offered robust off-road capability inherited from the Defender, but with improved on-road manners and a more car-like interior. The commercial variant is instantly recognizable by its lack of rear-side windows, creating a practical and secure cargo space. Over the years, these vehicles have become increasingly hard to come by, making any surviving example a valuable project for enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Our project began when the 1993 Discovery Commercial rolled onto our doorstep, showing the typical signs of age and use—surface rust, worn panels, and a need for a thorough refresh. These vehicles are especially prone to rust, and the commercial version is no exception. The first stage of our restoration process will involve a rust repair following panel beating.

With grinding and welding underway, we’re laying the groundwork for a full body rebuild. Once all rust has been addressed and new metal welded in, we’ll move on to panelwork, priming, and painting. The end goal? To return this 1993 Discovery Commercial to its former glory, preserving its unique character for years to come.
